Container delivery in Puyallup, WA

Container delivery in Puyallup, WA

Puyallup takes port freight along the River Road corridor and out toward SR-512, close enough to the Tacoma terminals that a container can be delivered and the empty returned inside the same shift. It is one of the few valley cities where a two-turn day is normal rather than optimistic.

The River Road corridor

SR-167 becomes River Road through Puyallup, and the industrial buildings along it are roughly 20 minutes from Husky Terminal and WUT. SR-512 connects the south side of town to I-5 for freight continuing to Lakewood and Olympia.

Because the run is short, Puyallup is the kind of delivery that absorbs a difficult gate day. When terminals run long, this is where we can still make the second turn.

Empties and chassis

The part of a Puyallup move that goes wrong is usually the empty return, not the delivery. Steamship lines change return locations and close windows with little notice. Because Long Road owns its chassis and runs its own container yard in Tacoma, we can take the empty off your dock immediately and return it when the line will actually accept it - instead of leaving a box parked in your yard for a week.

As a UIIA member we interchange with all the major lines, so the return is our problem to solve, not yours.

Puyallup drayage questions

How long is the run from the Tacoma terminals to Puyallup?

About 20 minutes up SR-167, which becomes River Road through town. It is short enough that a delivery and an empty return can happen on the same shift, so two turns in a day is normal here rather than optimistic.

The steamship line changed my empty return location. Now what?

We take the empty off your dock anyway and hold it at our yard until the line accepts it at the new location. Because we own our chassis we are not forced to keep a box parked at your building waiting for a window to open.

Can you handle flat racks and out-of-gauge cargo into Puyallup?

Yes. Flat rack and open-top freight comes off the terminal on our own equipment, and cargo that travels open moves on our flatbed, step deck, or RGN.
